ERCOLE FERRATA (1610-1686)
Madonna and Child with St. John. Oval plaque. Bronze with traces of gilding, 81 x 107mm. This composition occurs in several variants, including one with a column and drapery in the background, and was influential enough to be adopted by other artists such as can be seen in the central medallion of the Holy-Water Stoup attributed to Giovanni Giardini [1646-1721] and now in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Scratches on back, and four small cushioning pads. An Extremely Fine old cast.
