GERMAN, second half of the 16th Century
The Pieta. Rectangular plaquette. Bronze, 56 x 88mm. The Virgin holds the arm of the dead Christ who lies before her, drapery around, bottom arm of a cross behind. Vide: G Hirsch (Munich), November 8, 1910, lot 400; a variant described as "German" was in the collection of Walcher Ritter v. Molthein (Braun 80). Pierced top and bottom with solder marks on back. A Very Fine old cast.
