LYSIPPUS the YOUNGER (fl. Rome, ca. 1470-1484)
Antonio da Santamaria (died before 1498). Medal, ca. 1478. Bronze, 78mm. ANTO. DESANCTAMARIA.I.V.D.COM.PAL, Bust left wearing cap, rev. Eagle atop helmed Arms festooned in branches. An enlarged unrecorded/unpublished version of Hill 805. In 1486, da Santamaria became "collector plumbi" (tax collector), and in 1492 was appointed Secretary and Notary. Lysippus the Younger (AKA Ermes Flavio de Bonis) made numerous medals in large and small versions and while this example is not contemporary, it may have been cast from a now-lost enlarged version of Hill 805.
