The Robert P Ball Cabinet of Ancient Coins | Bruttium, Kaulonia, AR Stater, c. 525-500 BC, Apollo advancing right, holding branch aloft in right hand, left arm extended, on which a small daimon runs right, holding a branch in each hand; ethnic KANA to left, stag standing right, head reverted to right, all within dot-and-cable border, rev. same type as obverse incuse but daimon in outline and no ethnic, all within radiate border, 7.98g (Noe, Caulonia, Group A, 10 same dies; Gorini 3; HN Italy 2035; SNG ANS 146 same dies; Boston MFA, 172; Warren, 138 same dies; Jameson, 408 same dies; HGC I, 1416), well-struck and lustrous with attractive blue toning, some spotting with very light scratching, otherwise a pleasing very fine, a lovely example of a popular archaic type, rare in this state
