Gaul, Uncertain Tribe (3rd Century BC), 'Crescent' type, AV Stater, in the style of Philip II of Macedon, Group II Issues struck at Amphipolis c. 340-328 BC, laureate head of Apollo right, rev. Charioteer driving biga right, holding reins in his left hand and kentron in his right, crescent below horses, blundered FILIPPOU in exergue, 8.40g, 6h (cf. 'Crescent type' - Le Rider pls. 76-77, nos. 90-93, 97), some scuffing to portrait and before Charioteer, otherwise very fine, a curious and presumably very rare contemporary Celtic 'imitation'
