Royal Society of Arts, Silver 'Athena' Prize Medal awarded to Robert Frederick Abraham in 1842, by T Wyon Jr., head of Minerva, rev. TO MR. ROBT. FREDK. ABRAHAM MDCCCXLII above wreath, FOR A PORTRAIT IN CHALK engraven at centre, edge plain, 42.76g, 12h, neatly engraved and lightly toned, a minor rim bruise at 5 o'clock, otherwise extremely fine
Robert Frederick Abraham was born in 1827 at Hanley, Staffordshire. Studying as a Ceramic Decorative Arts in Paris and Antwerp, he exhibited portraits and historical subjects in oil at the Royal Academy and British Institution between 1846 and 1853. Soon afterwards, he was workin for a Mr Rose at Coalport and at the Hill Pottery, Burslem. In 1864, he was a china manufacturer at Northwood, Hanley (Staffs). Later he became decorating manager and art director of Copelands, Stoke-on-Trent. He died on 24 September 1895.
