Victoria (1837-1901), Proof 'Gothic' Crown, MDCCCXLVII [1847] UNDECIMO, by W Wyon, crowned 'Gothic' bust left, WW on truncation, rev. crowned shields cruciform, raised lettered edge downwards, 28.28g*, 6h (L&S 57; ESC 288; Bull 2571; Spink 3883), removed from a brooch mount with solder marks to legends, bruising to rim and pitting behind head, otherwise residually brilliant, the struck details bolder than very fine, the iconic portrait about extremely fine, an act of numismatic sacrilege, but one that enables the budget conscious collector a great opportunity to fill this prized gap
