Captain Cook's Second Voyage to the Pacific Ocean, 1772, "Resolution and Adventure" or "Otaheite" AE Medal, GEORGE III KING OF GR BRITAIN FRANCE AND IRELAND ETC, laureate head right, B.F. on truncation, rev. view of the frigates "Resolution" and "Adventure" with respective names above, SAILED FROM ENGLAND | MARCH MDCCLXXII in exergue, 43mm, 31.32g, 12h (Betts 552; BHM 165; MH 373; Eimer 744), with contemporary but possibly non-original brass loop for suspension attached, therefore probably intended for use in presentation to 'Natives' on the voyage, and the usual die flaw on reverse, otherwise rubbed with spots of corrosion, nearly very fine, very rare
