Italy. Nine Medals from Girometti and Cerbara's Illustrious Italian Men series. All Bronze, 42mm. Includes: Umbrian painter Pietro Vannucci (Perugino), historian and statesman Francesco Guicciardini, Renaissance architect Filippo Brunelleschi, military engineer Francesco de Marchi, Cardinal Caesar Baronius, historian Ludovico Antonio Muratori, Renaissance man Girolamo Fracastoro, Doge Enrico Dandolo, and composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. Pietro Girometti (1811-1859) and Nicola Cerbara (1796-1869) collaborated to create the 'Uomini Illustrati Italiani' (Illustrious Italian Men) series, which was inaugurated in 1846. They planned a total 100 medals to be issued four per year, but the project ended prematurely with the early death of Pietro, whose father Giuseppe also worked on the series. All with some adhesive residue on the reverse. Extremely Fine. (9)
