Celtic Britain. Trinovantes and Catuvellauni. Uninscribed, 60-20 BC. AV Quarter Stater. Maldon Wheel type. Uncertain mint in the North Thames region. 1.33 gms. Apollo head devolved into a wreath, crescents, ringed pellets joined by beaded lines and a wheel attached to a spike, rev.Horse right, beaded mane, floral sun above. The Maldon Wheel is one of four uninscribed types found north of the Thames, mostly in Essex, which clearly imitate Quarter Staters minted by tribes in the south, notably the Atrebates and Regni.
