Celtic Britain. Durotriges. Uninscribed, ca. 60-20 BC. Electrum Quarter Stater (largely silver). 1.19 gms. Thunderbolt type. Two figures standing in stylized boat, large reverted "S" spiral behind figure at right, two pellets at left, rev. Central "zigzag" thunderbolt, Y shape, ornaments around. Van Arsdell 1242, ABC 2208, S.368. This type shares nearly the same obverse as the Cantii Hampshire Thunderbolt type, while the reverses differ largely by the design of the central bolt. It may be the progenitor of the Cantii AV type, though this cataloger believes that the Cantii type is more likely the progenitor of this "Durotriges" type. Near Extremely Fine.
