Auction: 363 - The National Toy Soldier Museum Collection: Part 2 - Medals & Militaria
Lot: 18
Great Britain. Home Service, "the Queen's" Spiked Helmet. Scarlet Gunner - Corps of Drums Society Replica. "Warminster" pattern. Size 6 7/8 - 55. Dark blue cloth body, "The Queen's" regimental frontplate in gilt brass; brass spike atop cruciform base, gilt brass chin strap; blue leather sweatband, interior green cloth. The Corps of Drum Society, whose mission is to foster the traditional drum and flute music played by the British army and by civilian groups, began to take an active role in provisioning items of full dress clothing to Line regiments of the British army. Feeling that the uniform was no longer capable of major natural development and was essentially frozen in its final pre-1914 pattern, the society developed a replica headdress which encouraged regiments to procure in lieu of the variations. From this was born the Warminster pattern. Mint condition.
