Royal Navy Tunic of Commander Anthony John Cobham, ECM/GC, MBE. 1944. Small to medium. Dark navy cloth, silvery gold embroidered cuff decoration, cloth riband upper breast bars, navy tie; white (modern) shirt. Cobham (1909 Penang-1993 Portchester, Hampshire) served on a number of ships including the "Winchester", "Vimy", "Electra", and "Eclipse". On the 26th of July, 1929 he was serving aboard the HMS Devonshire off the Greek island of Skiathos. While carrying out full caliber firing, a large explosion blew the roof off one of the gun turrets. Cobham immediately entered the turret and helped the wounded, some of them their uniforms on fire. In the process he inhaled a large amount of cordite fumes. He was awarded the ECM. He went on to serve in World War II active in the Atlantic, Africa and Burma theatres. Moderate wear.
