Cameron Highlanders Patrol Jacket of Lieut. General Sir John Spencer Ewart, KCN, ADC to King George V. Ca. 1918. Medium. Dark navy cloth, red collar facing, blue shoulder stripes each with one rank star and insignia. Cloth riband bars, brown leather cross belt. Born into a distinguished Scottish family of military officers, Sir John Spencer Ewart (1861-1930) was commissioned into the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders in 1881. Present at the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir 1882, he received the Khedive's Star, served through the Nile Expedition, 1884-1885 (Relief of Gordon Pasha); and participated in operations of the Sudan Frontier Force 1885 and the engagements of Kosheh and Giniss, mentioned in the dispatches, received the Order of the Medjidie. Ewart was present at the Battle of Khartoum, mentioned in the dispatches; served in South Africa, 1899-1902, was Brigade Major of the Highland Brigade during the advance on Kimberley, twice mentioned in dispatches; became A.D.C. to the King in 1910, created K.C.B. in 1911.
