Dutch-American. Recognition of the Independence of the United States by Frisia, 1782. Silver, 44mm. 30.41 gms; 469.2 grains. By B.C.V. Calker. Frisia, at center, standing ¾ left, clasps the hand of a Native American woman - America, while turning his back and spurning the maiden behind him -- Britain, and its snake in the grass, rev. Eight-line legend, arm emerging from cloud above with Frisian shield. Betts 602. Frisia was the first European state to recognize the government of the fledgling States United in North America. This is the first medal of the brief 1782 Dutch-American Medal series. Toned over some hairlines. About Uncirculated. Accompanied by an early fitted wooden roundel.
