Ellsworth, Oliver (1745-1807). Framer of the U.S. Constitution, delegate to the Continental Congress, Senator from Connecticut, third Chief Justice of the United States (1796-1801). Document Signed "O. Ellsworth". 8 ½ x 4" voucher, Hartford, June 6th 1776 instructing Treasurer M. Lawrence to "Pay W. Martin Lord One Hundred Eight pounds nineteen Shillings & Eight pence ½ - for the purchase of premises...by him manufactured in & sold to this Colony". Ellsworth signs, as a member of the Committee, at lower right; Thomas Seymour, the first mayor of Hartford, signs below. Very Fine. Attractively matted with an engraving of Ellsworth and antiqued gilt framed, 15 ½ x 24".
