German Miniature Bust of Friedrich Hecker, Hero of the 1848 Uprising in Baden. Wood, 2 ½" high. 19th-early 20th Century. After his defeat near Kandern, Hecker fled to the Canton of Basel, then migrated to the United States. He served in the Union Army in the Civil War, commanding the 24th Illinois Infantry, then 82nd Illinois. He was badly wounded at Chancellorsville, but recovered.
