The History of the Sylvan Debating Club by T. Livingstone Baily
Published by The Field Press Ltd, 1930. An edition of only 250 printed copies. The Sylvan Debating Club was founded in London in 1868 by Alfred Harmsworth. Notable members include Viscount Rothermere, Viscount Northcliffe, Lord Cecil Harmsworth, John Seymour Lucas, Augustine Birrell and Harwood Panting. Included is a personal letter to Lord Harmsworth dated '20.11.39'. Presented in a fitted wooden, arts and crafts box purportedly by Heals of London. The interior contains two plaques, dedicating the set to Lord Harmsworth and stating the origin of the wood of the box is from Dr. Johnson's House in Gough Square, the former home of the Sylvan Debating Club.
