Ecuador. Fernando VII (1808-1822). 2 Reales, 1822 P O. Pasto. Laureate, armored bust right; .FERDND.7.D.-G.ET.CONST., rev. Crowned Arms and Pillars. KM A1. The "P" mintmark on this coin has traditionally been assigned to Popayán, Colombia, but recent research supports the belief that the "P" is for Pasto, Ecuador. During the War of Independence, the Royalists transported minting equipment from Popayán to Pasto, where they used it to strike this coin. This type is the first coin struck in Ecuador and the country's only Colonial type. Crude, About Very Fine.
