France. Royal Loan - Annuity to pay for the King's Entertainment, 1st of October 1768. 7 pages, folio, printed and written, with 1786 written repayment annotations in the margins. Mademoiselle Anne Marie, Marie Jeanne, Guillaume Layson and other members of the Layson family receive a perpetual annuity "to be drawn specially from the excise duties, salt taxes and the 'five great tax farms', and generally on all His Majesty's revenues…" The bills were issued for work carried out by designers in the office of the King for "menus plaisirs" (entertainment), which was likely in the form of a traveling theatre of musical troupe. Of the original bills, the value has been reduced to 687 Livres 10 Sols with interest of 34 Livres, 7 Sols and 6 Deniers. Some nibbling in right center edges. Fine. Accompanied by an unrelated 1793 Assignat of 5 Livres (P-A76), EF, and an English translation
