Rockefeller, Nelson Aldrich. Businessman and politician, Vice President of the United States (1974-1977), Governor of New York (1959-1973), Undersecretary of Health, Education and Welfare (1953-1954), Assistant Secretary of State for American Republic Affairs (1944-1945), president and later chairman of Rockefeller Center, noted art collector. Pair of typed Letters Signed "Nelson A. Rockefeller. Both one-page, and folded. The first, June 7, 1940, Room 5600, 30 Rockefeller Plaza ("30 Rock"), to a Mrs. Ripkey regretting there was not enough space for her at Rockefeller Center's opening ceremony; and noting that she will receive a copy of the book commemorating "the driving of the last rivet in the Center". The second, Washington, D.C., March 4, 1942, a thank you letter from Nelson as Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs. Also, a Hallmark Congratulations card, ca. 1940 signed by Nelson, his father John D. Rockefeller, Jr., his brothers Laurance S., David and John D. Rockefeller 3rd, Laurance's assistant Randolph B. Marston, and over 60 others - from the 30 Rock offices - this apparently connected to the letter to Mrs. Ripkey; and a clipped signature of Nelson A. Very Fine. Interesting NYC-related grouping. [4]
