A Trio of Vanderbilt Newspaper Shares Signed By Cornelius Vanderbilt, Jr., and More. Vanderbilt Newspapers (DE) 1924. Cornelius Vanderbilt, Jr. was the great grandson of the Commodore. He launched the Los Angeles Illustrated Daily News, the San Francisco Illustrated Daily Herald and the Miami Tab. He tried to uphold the highest standards of journalistic excellence, but the publications lasted only two and a half years. Two with green borders, one brown. All issued uncancelled; VF to VF+. Peoria & Bureau Valley Railroad issued to Thomas Durant and signed by him on the verso. Bold, uncancelled signature; Western Rail Road 1839 signed by Josiah Quincy as treasurer, IU, VF+.
