Austria. Fireman's Helmet from Stiefern in the Krems District. Ca. 1900-1916. Hardened black leather body with neck guard, brass trim and brass comb, leather chinstrap secured by brass lionhead side fittings, eight-finger leather liner. Frontplate in black and red letters 'FREIWILLIGE - STIEFERN - FEUERWEHR - FILIALE THÜRNEUSTIFT". Height: from end of neckguard to top of comb 6 5/8". Liner worn and missing three fingers, body and fittings well-preserved.
