German States. Prussia. The Triumphs of Friedrich the Great Commemorative Tobacco Box, ca. 1760. Brass and Copper, 6 ¼ x 1 5/8"; 1 1/3" high. By Johann Heinrich Giese (1716-1761) of Iserlohn in Westphalia. On the lid are portraits of Friedrich the Great at left and his brother Prince Heinrich at right, Battle of Rossbach in the middle, "Giese" and "Iserlohn" in small cartouches below. At the center of the bottom is the Battle of Lissa, maidens and putti sounding clarions beside banners at either end. A very scarce medallic box. Very Fine.
