1579 Letter from Trieste addressed to Charles II, Archduke of Austria and ruler of Inner Austria, dated June 28, 1579, with paper seal on reverse, sent by Lieutenant Grabriel Mavernius and written in Latin, concerning the sequestration of land for salt mines, the construction of salt works, as well as an hostile act of force with a Venetian incursion into Triestine territory by men transported by a fleet of 40 small Venetian vessels, manned with approximately 600 men. Charles II was brother of Emperor Maximilian II, and consequently he was not the ruler in all of the Habsburg countries as they were united only under Ferdinand II, son of Charles II.
