Russia. Set of four hand-painted Zagorski "Icon" eggs. Approx. 9" high. Carved from limestone and edged in gold-leaf, hand-painted in the village of Zagorski. Each depicts an iconographic symbol of the Russian Orthodox Church - Our Lady Vladimirskaya (Virgin and Child), Christ Savior, the Holy Trinity and the Resurrection. Christ Savior and the Holy Trinity both represent icons by the medieval artist Andrei Rublev. On the back of each egg is a scene of the spires of Zagorsk. Comes with four wood stands. A lovely set in mint condition.
