Papal States. Paolo II -- Pietro Barbo (1464-1471). Ducato Papale. Roma. Crown and crossed keys above Barbo Arms; .PAVLVS.PP*. .*SECVNDVS., rev. Saints Peter and Paul standing facing. Ber.401, Fr.19. A vain and ostentatious man, the Venetian noble Pietro Barbo wore rouge in public and wanted, it is said, to use the name Formosus ("Handsome") II as his papal name but was dissuaded from doing so. He built the Palazzo San Marco (now the Palazzo Venezia) as his papal abode and there amassed a grand collection of art and antiquities. PCGS MS 62 (wrong Fr. number on holder).
