England. James II (1685-1688). Five Guineas, 1688. QVARTO. Second laureate bust left, rev. Crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles. MCE 119; KM 460.1; S.3397A. PCGS MS63+, currently the highest graded example, residual lustre with attractive russet toning. Extremely rare in this condition, James' portraits usually being softly-struck, this example retaining remarkable detail.
