Spain. In Memory of the Bombardment of Bilbao, 1874. Pinback uniface badge. Silver and gilt, 35mm. Raised cannonball-shaped medallion. Central gold fleur de lis within wreath, RECUERDO DEL BOMBARDEO DE BILBAO 1874 in gold around, all against "Japanned" background. The siege of the Basque town of Bilbao began Feb. 21, 1874. Carlist forces continued their bombardment until mid-April when an incursion by the Liberal army under Serrano forced them to cease. The siege was lifted on May 1. Integral top cinch for suspension (the pinback likely added shortly after). Extremely Fine.
