Slavery, Emancipation: Documents Relating to Resolutions Concerning Slavery and Proposed by the State of Ohio. 1820's. The resolution proposed a plan for the gradual emancipation of slaves if they agree to be colonized elsewhere upon reaching the age of twenty-one. The douments that follow contain the responses to this proposal made by various states: Louisiana, February 21, 1826, "...does not concur..." Delaware, May 11, 1825, "...do concur..." Georgia, December 29, 1824, " we..."view the resolution...as calculated to infringe the rights of the State of Georgia..." Vermont, December 23, 1825, ""...slavery is an evil to be depricated by a free and enlightened people. Mississippi, February 7, 1825, Missisippi doe not concur..." Also included are two documents requesting copies of a Pennsylvania law providing for the emancipation of slaves, and a printed form concerning a memorial to George Washington's mother. [10]
