Charles X, King of France (1757-1836). Younger of brother of Louis XVI and Louis XVIII; during the Revolution, Charles and his family went into exile in Savoy. With the advent of the Restoration, Charles's older brother reigned as Louis XVIII, when he died in 1824, Charles succeeded him to the throne; his six-year draconian rule culminated in the July Revolution of 1830, Charles abdicated and went into exile, dying of cholera in Gorizia in 1836. Document Signed as King "Charles". One page, large parchment folio, Paris, November 26, 1829. The document confers a title to soldier and nobleman, Nicolas-Francois, Vicomte Roussel d'Hurbal. Charles signs boldly below at right. To his left is the signature of Courvoisier, Keeper of the Seals. The original green seal, broken (with about two-fifths remaining) is still attached. Folds and light wrinkle, otherwise a very good document.
