Beauharnais, Eugène de. (1781-1824). Duke of Leuchtenberg, Viceroy of Italy, Prince of Eichstätt; son of Empress Joséphine, adopted son of Napoleon. Letter Signed as Viceroy of Italy "Eugene Napoleon". One page on folded folio, Milan, 10 April 1806. Writing to Faujas de Saint-Fond, Beauharnais recommends a talented young Italian artist whom he is sending from Bologna to Paris. He notes that the young man wants to learn under Faujas' guidance "how to draw everything appropriate to Natural History…During his first two years staying in Paris, he will receive from me a pension of 1200 Francs a year. I am granting him this little pension for only two years because I do not want this young Italian artist to be lost to his country. On the contrary, I want him to return at the end of two years, rich in the guidance he will have received from you." Beauharnais signs with a flourish below. Some foxing-speckling. Fine. Accompanied by two 19th engravings of Beauharnais. [3]
