Great Britain. Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. George V. Named to: 7121 T. R. S. MJR: H.C. LAURIE. HIGH: L.I. Engraving error, last name is Lawrie. H.C. Lawrie enlisted at Edinburgh in 1900, and joined the 1st Battalion at Devonshire. Promoted to Sergeant in 1905, and Company Sergeant Major in 1916. During WWI, CQMS Lawrie was wounded at Ypres in 1915, recovered, returned to the trenches, and was reported MIA. He survived to end up in 1917 with the unusual rank of Temporary RSM of the 1st Battalion of the Highland Light Infantry. He was appointed Lieutenant and Quartermaster in Sept. 1919. He died at the Military Hospital, The Castle, Edinburgh, after a brief illness in December 1921. On ribbon. Accompanied by various pages of research and copies of 4 photos of Lawrie - Scottish Rifle Meet 1907, Football Team, Lucknow 1910, Bengal-Punjab Cup Tournament 1913 (his obit notes that he was "one of the best athletes the regiment has had").
