Sweden. Karl XIV Johan. Opening of the Western Gota Canal Medal, 1822. Silver, 50mm. By Heinrich Gube; produced by Loos. King's high-relief bare head right, signed below, rev. Rivergods flank shield-like prow before canal gate, ship behind. After his studies at Vienna, Heinrich Gube went to work for Loos in Berlin where he achieved well-merited attention. In 1830, he was appointed chief engraver and medalist at St. Petersburg, and his signature appears on various Russian coins and medals. Some friction Hairlines. Attractive, steely deep charcoal-gray. Extremely Fine.
