de Flesselles, Jacques (1730-1789). Intendant of Moulins (1762), Rennes (1765) and Lyon (1768-1784); sponsored a Mongolfier ballon in 1784 named Flesselles in his honor; on 21st of April, 1789, became the last provost of the merchants of Paris, in July, he received demands to provide weapons to equip a citizen militia, but was only able to muster up 3 muskets and his suggestions as to where there might be more weapons proved mistaken or misleading. Following the storming of the Bastille, de Flesselles became one of the earliest victims of French Revolution; accused of royalist sympathies, he was surrounded by a mob, shot then decapitated. Autograph Letter Signed "de flesselles" as Lieutenant-General of Moulins. Four pages, 7 7/8 x 12 1/3", Moulins, August 26, 1764. Writing to the Duc de Biron, Marshal of France and commander of the French Guards, de Flesselles expands on his desire to please Biron in his request for recruits and that he has given orders to his agents and sub-delegates to earnestly recruit for the Guards regiment.
