Crimean War. Guerre de Crimée. Zouave secouru par les Anglais. Original brown brush and pencil drawing with brown wash by Jean Sorieul (1824-1871). 8 ½ x 12 ¼". A lively composition depicting a wounded Zouave carried on a rifle brace by two British soldiers to a camp doctor. Sorieul was a student of Hippolyte Bellangé and L. Cogniet, becoming well-known as a historical painter. Small repair near upper edge on the sky. Attractively matted and framed, 18 x 14 ½".
