Venice secured Cyprus during Tron's reign, arresting Ottoman movements in the area through its alliance with the local ruler Uzan Hassan Beg. The Serene Republic's military activities though were costly causing the doge to reform the coinage, which included a new denomination, named after himself, the "Trono". The new coin probed unpopular and the Venetians were offended by the doge's self-promotion. After Tron's death in 1473, the coin was immediately withdrawn.. Toned over light old hairlines, slight graininess. Full, broad flan. Very Fine.
