Chouteau, Auguste (1792-1833). Founder of St. Louis, Missouri; pioneer and fur trader. Scarce Endorsement Signed "Aug. Chouteau," on verso of a Manuscript Document Signed "Abraham Beck," 1 page, oblong 8vo, St. Louis, Missouri, June 12, 1821. A promissory note, written out and signed by Beck, relating: "Sixty days after the date I promise to pay to the order of Auguste Chouteau Esq. three hundred thirty three Dollars twenty five cents payable and negotiable at the bank of Missouri without defalcaties." Age-toning, minor stains, and fold wear, otherwise good condition. Bears a bold signature of Chouteau. From the Collection of John Herzog.
