1790 (1876) Diplomatic Peace and Commerce Medal. Julian CM-15. Bronze. 67.9mm By Charles Barber and Augustin Dupré. America cast as an Indian princess seated right welcoming Commerce (Mercury), signed DUPRE F. lower right, and C. BARBER. 1876. in ex., rev. Great Seat of the United States. The original dies for the gold medal were prepared by Dupré in 1790. They were returned to the U.S. and lost. It wasn't until 1875, that the US Mint prepared copies of the dies for silver and bronze medals. Rare. Tiny obverse flaw. Deep cherry-brown, good lustre. Uncirculated.
