1861 Liberty $10. PCGS AU58. During the first year of the War Between the States, the Philadelphia Mint struck only 113,100 pieces. Near mint condition examples from this year are always popular. The fairly bright and lustrous yellow-gold surfaces on this example have some contact marks, and a there is a small scratch near the date. The strike is bolder than usual; the centers of the stars are clear, and the olive branches show decent details. Recent auction records indicate rising demand, so bid accordingly.
