Great Britain/United States. HRH Albert Edward Prince of Wales Honorary Member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, London 1896 Medal. Bronze. 69mm, 7/8mm thick. Uniformed bust of the Prince of Wales ¾ left, title as Field Marshal, etc. below, rev. Arms of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Co.; LONDON 1896 PRESENTED BY MAJOR WOOLMER WILLIAMS. The oldest chartered militia organization in North America, the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company received its charter in 1638 from the Great and General Court of Massachusetts, signed by Governor John Winthrop. Prior to the future king Edward VII, honorary membership was granted to Prince Albert, and after to George V. A few small edge nicks and contact marks typical of such heavy medals, and some deposits chatter. Extremely Fine and Rare.
