Serbia. Djurdj I Brankovic, Despot (1427-1456). Pair of AR Dinar. 0.88 and 0.73 gms. D&D 41.1.8. Christ Pantokrator enthroned facing, IC-+C - on the second example, this is retrograde, rev. Lion rampant within reeded circle, Slavic legend around. Son of Vuk Brankovic, Djurdj became despot after the death of his uncle Stefan Lazarevic in 1427. His reign saw both the Hungarians and Ottoman Turks nibbling away at Serbian territory. With the Serbian capital, Belgrade now part of Hungary, Djurdj built a new capital at Smederevo. D& 41.1.8.
