Serbia. Stefan Lazar Hrebljanovic, Knez (1371-1389). AR Dinar. 1.15 gms. Christ Pantokrator enthroned facing, IC-XC, "5"-like symbol right field, rev. The Prince standing facing, holding a scepter and akakia. Stefan Lazar built a large and powerful state known as Moravian Serbia from the disintegrated Serbian empire. He led his forces against the massive invading Ottoman army of Sultan Murad I at the Battle of Kosovo. Murad died there as did Prince Lazar. He is venerated as a martyr and saint in the Orthodox Church. Jovanovic 32.8, D&D 23.1.4. Minor weakness. Good Very Fine.
