Isle of Man. James Stanley, 10th Earl of Derby (1702-1736). Penny, 1709. Cast Brass. Eagle and child, rev. Triskeles. Pridmore 1, KM 2a. In 1708, the Earl of Derby applied to the Treasury to strike coins, his request was rejected at the recommendation of Sir Isaac Newton, then at the Royal Mint. The Earl proceeded to have coins cast, possibly at Castle Rushen and the coinage was proclaimed current on the 24th of June 1710 by the Act of Tynwald. Good Very Fine.
