1776 United States Centennial International Exhibit October 18, 1875. Philadelphia. One share. No.6543. 22" x 26." Original Centennial Board of Finance. Issued to "Lizzie B. Fry." Bureau of Engraving and Printing vignettes of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence, colonial farmers, grieving Native American seated on a log viewing city houses and smokestacks in the distance; Liberty gesturing towards Native American fur traders, Revolutionary War soldiers, prospectors, inventors, politicians, an African-American man reading an open book, Oriental traders and merchants from around the world, and busts of Washington and Grant. A monumental engraving symbollically depicting our country's first 100 years. VF+. Lightly toned, and there is some minor damage confined to the edges of the generous margins. A wonderful example of perhaps the largest American share certificate, and a great piece of 1776 Centennial ephemera. It will frame up nicely.
