Rio Grande Southern Railroad (Colorado) 1890. $1000. First Mortgage Five Per Cent Gold Bond. No.3123. Orange borders and underprint. Cherub at the top. Train in a rectangular frame, below. Signed by Otto Mears as President. Fully issued, uncancelled. There is a taped split in the lower coupons, otherwise VF+. Otto Mears played a major role in the early development of southwestern Colorado because of his road and railroad building projects. He built hundreds of miles of toll roads, notably the Million Dollar Highway over Red Mountain Pass, connecting Silverton to Ouray.
