Robert Tyre "Bobby" Jones Jr. (1902-1971) is widely considered to be the greatest amateur golfer ever. Bobby Jones dominated the sport of golf in the 1920s. From 1923 to 1930, Jones won thirteen major championships - five U.S. Amateurs, four U.S. Opens, three British Opens, and one British Amateur. In 1930, he became the only man to win all four major titles in one season, completing the "Grand Slam" of golf. At the age of twenty-eight, Jones retired from competition to devote more time to his family and his law practice. Jones was responsible for the creation of the Augusta National Golf Club, and the annual invitational tournament associated with it, the Masters. First played in 1934, the Masters is recognized as one of the four major tournaments in golf.L. Sherman Adams was the Whitehouse Chief of Staff for President Eisenhower. In 1958, he was forced to resign when a House subcommittee revealed that Adams had accepted expensive gifts from Bernard Goldfine, a Boston textile manufacturer who was under investigation for Federal Trade Commission violations. We know of only one other similar example, Lot 7, Green Jacket Auctions, January 1, 2014, which realized $9,532.
