E. Remington & Sons (New York) 1890. Ilion. $100 bond payable at the Ilion National Bank, nine coupons attached below. Green underprint. Superb American Bank Note vignette of the Battle of New Orleans. Frontiersman and dog, left. Signed by E. Remington (III) as treasurer. Issued, uncancelled, Choice Very Fine+ condition. Also included is an Ilion Bank certificate for 5 shares signed by Eliphalet Remington (II), Very Fine, issued, cancelled, with a few stains on the back. Philo Remington started the company, and in 1865, reorganized it into E. Remington and Sons, one of the most successful gun manufacturers in the world. After the War Between the States the Remington name also became famous for typewriters, sewing machines and other business machinery. A rare, desirable, and graphically pleasing bond that may not be seen again at auction for decades.
