Franco-Texan Land Company (Texas) 1876. One share. No.8603. Principle offices in Dallas, Paris and New York. Liberty and flag. Cattle, left, farmers plowing, right. Text in English, French and German(for the benefit of European investors). Issued, not cancelled. VF+. One pinhole.
The Franco-Texan Land Company was allegedly organized by French bondholders of the Memphis, El Paso, and Pacific Railroad in order to salvage their investments through sale of lands in the railroad's Texas land grant. Most of the money raised through the sale of securities like these ended up in the pockets of unscrupulous local managers and directors, but railroads eventually were built, resulting in the development of Northwest Texas.
