Auction: 323 - The Numismatic Collector's Series Sale
Lot: 1026
Bolivia. Bradbury Wilkinson Printer's Archival Photographic Essays for the Series of 1900 El Banco del Comercio Notes. All original vintage sepia photographic images of Specimens, Series A, mounted on cards. Like Pick S131 through S135. 1 Boliviano. 140 x 68mm. Miners, left, Bolivar, right; 5 Bolivianos. 160 x 78mm. Woman and girl, left, General Nariño, right; 10 Bolivianos. 183 x 78mm. Liberty seated, left, Columbus, right; 20 Bolivianos. 183 x 88mm. Helmeted Minerva, left. Art, right; 50 Bolivianos. 180 x 100mm. Building, left. Nude Mercury, right. All backs with arms at the center. A few are slightly faded, the 50 Bolivianos has a small piece missing in the lower margin. All with mounting remnants on the back of the cards.
While all are very similar to the final adopted designs, there are many subtle variations. (For example, compare the counters in the upper corners of the 10 Bolivianos to the adopted design.) While the Standard Catalog speculates that a 100 Bolivianos was issued, this auction lot offers proof that it was not. No archive photograph of that type is present, and a hand written note (included with this lot) indicating the colors to be used for "Comercio Notes. 4/4/1900" does not mention the 100 Bolivianos denomination. Some are faded. Should be viewed. Sold as is, no returns. [11]
